Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 


Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.



Jean Clyde Floyd

Jean Clyde Ford gained her heavenly wings on Thursday, January 18, 2018.  She was born on December 31, 1924, to James Edward Wilson and Belle (Harper) Wilson.


Danny Cox

Danny Cox passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at UMMC in Jackson.  He was born on October 8, 1948, to Shelley Wade Cox and Frances Victoria (Phillips) Cox in Columbus, GA. 

He was retired from MS State Guard, was a WWII Vietnam Veteran, 15 year Army Guard and 22 years MS Air Guard.



Morris M. Pearson

Morris M. Pearson, 83, of D Lo, Mississippi, died Sunday at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, Mississippi. He was born Thursday, August 23, 1934.

He was preceded in death by Parents, Elmer Pearson and Zona Pearson; Sisters, Betty, Ruth Wells and Geneva Woods.


Arrest Reports 1-4-2018

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 21 arrests from December 25 to January 1.

Erica Nicole Reeves of 1184 Ferguson Mill Road Silver Creek MS, was arrested on December 28 and charged with possession of paraphernalia and a controlled substance.


Earnestine C. McGowan

Funeral services for Mrs. Earnestine C. McGowan, 65, Mount Olive MS were held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2PM from the Point Pleasant M.B. Church, Mount Olive, MS.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pastor Johnny Moseley officiated the service.  Reeves Funeral Home, Inc., Mount Olive, MS was in charge of the arrangements.


Paul McWilliams

Paul McWilliams, age 70, of D’Lo passed away on January 2, 2018.

Paul was born in Magee to John McWilliams and Annie Byrd. Mr. McWilliams was a Mason for many years at the Mendenhall Masonic Lodge 497.

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 30 arrests from December 18 to December 25.

Bruce Parker was of 412 East Main Street Braxton, MS was arrested on December 21 and charged with felony possession of a firearm.


Elizabeth Dianne Kennedy

Funeral Services for Mrs. Elizabeth Dianne Kennedy will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Saulters Funeral Home Chapel in Prentiss. Mrs. Kennedy passed away from this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in Mendenhall. Interment will follow in Bassfield Cemetery.


Neil Wilfong

Neil Wilfong, 69, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Covington County Hospital in Collins, MS. He was born Tuesday, July 6, 1948 in , Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.





Sarah Jean Morton

Graveside services for Sarah Jean Morton were Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. from Linwood Cemetery in Neshoba County. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 

Ms. Morton, 81, of D’Lo, MS, died Friday, January 5, 2018.

Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.
