N. Main project gets ok’ed

The Mendenhall Mayor and Board of Aldermen called a special meeting on April 13 at 7 a.m. to discuss the three properties currently being built by Jaron Priest on North Main Street. The issues with the properties began in December 2017. Priest is building one home to live in and two additional homes that he plans sell.





Appointment has domino effect

The pre-brokered plans to appoint an election commissioner for Simpson County have apparently been foiled based on objections of conflict of interest.
Following the recent appointment of former State Representative Andy Gipson to Agriculture Commissioner, the dominoes started falling, creating vacancies in Simpson County politics.



Banis, Fewell to unite June 2

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Banis of Magee joyfully announce the engagement of their daughter, Savannah Faith Banis, to Mason Warren Fewell. Mason is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shane Fewell of Mendenhall. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fewell of Mendenhall and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Luckey of Magee.

Joeann A. Booth passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at her residence.  She was born on December 22, 1950, to the late Robert Badeaux and Ouida (Reynolds) Badeaux.

Brenda Hosey Morgan passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Oschner Medical Center.  She was born on September 29, 1959, to John Henry Hosey and Ethel Whynette (Tullos) Hosey in Picayune, MS. 


Billy Mitchell Barlow

Billy Mitchell Barlow, 66, of Brandon died Saturday April 7, 2018 at Home. He was born Saturday, September 8, 1951.

Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by parents, Otis and Elsie Barlow


Charlotte Elaine Allen

Charlotte Elaine Allen, 80, of Magee died Tuesday at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. She was born Sunday, May 30, 1937.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.

 

 

 

 


Arrest Reports 4-12-2018

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 38 arrests from April 2 to April 9.

Danny Ray White of 140 Barnes Road Braxton MS was arrested and charged with possession of paraphernalia, DUI 1st, and possession of a controlled substance.

Lemeul Pierre McNair of Magee was arrested and charged with sale of methamphetamine.



Stewart, Brinson wed May 12

Rebekah Stewart and Ray Brinson are pleased to announce their upcoming marriage on May 12, 2018, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Magee.

Jerry Blaine White, Sr., 68, passed away April 10, 2018 at his residence.  Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Thursday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs and 10am-11am Friday at Antioch Baptist Church.  Services will be 11am Friday at Antioch Baptist Church with burial at Antioch Cemetery.  Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Spring

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 


Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

UPDATE – Wednesday, January 17, 12:30 p.m.

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.



Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.
