Kennedy Springs Baptist Church "Mission Center"--- --HUGE WINTER Sale...  January 19 and 20 from 8 a.m.-noon. Most  clothes are *50¢ including  blue jeans. Hundreds of sweats, coats, jackets and sweaters sell for * 50¢ and up.  They receive new clothing donations from CATO and Dollar General as well as jewelry from Ballyhoo often! Hundreds of books are available for 10 ¢.  It has been open to the public every other weekend for over ten years selling  toys, dishes, linens,knick knacks and much more at unbelievable prices! However, new date changes - they will now be open the 1st and 3rd Friday and Saturday each month and hopefully this will make it easier to keep up with.   Follow the pink signs from Polk’s Pharmacy only nine miles from downtown Magee and only 10 miles out Highway 540E from  Highway 49 to 2034 Highway 540. 601-847-0702. MZO Sanctuary Choir Live in Concert at Mt. Zion Ora Baptist Church, 604 Selma Road, Collins, on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m. New Year’s Gospel Explosion Proclaiming All Victory in 2018. Soloists and groups are invited to participate. Everyone is invited to attend.


January 21

Annual Usher Day will be held at Zionell C.M.E. Church, 325 Zionell Road, Mt. Olive, on January 21 at 1:15 p.m. Pastor Rev. Eddie Cole, Sr., guest speaker presiding Elder Rev. Eddie Dixon. Theme: “Ushers united on one accord in the body of Christ” Ephesians 4:1-6.


The Kingsmen of Asheville, N,C will be in concert at Salem Baptist Church, 2380 Salem Rd, Lake, on Sun., Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.  Everyone is invited to attend. For more information call 601-775-8272.  A love offering will be taken.


January 22

The Princess and the Pea presented by Puppet Arts Theatre directed by Peter Zapletal, will be held Monday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. at Mendenhall Public Library. This performance is made possible in part by a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.


January 25

The annual Friends of the Mendenhall Library soup and cornbread fundraiser will be held Thurday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Don’t miss out. Purchase your $5 ticket from a Friends member or at the library circulation desk. 


January 28

Annual Women’s Day program will be held at Mary Grove M.B. Church on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Rose Collins of South Pleasant Hill will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited.


January 31

Visit Mendenhall Library for coffee and cookies and stay for coloring on Jan. 31 from 1-2 p.m.


February 1

The Republican Women of Simpson County will meet Thursday February 1, at 11 a.m. in the E 911 Building in Mendenhall. Guests are welcome. For information call 601-953-2533.


February 4

The 123rd Year Church Anniversary Celebration will be held at New Zion M.B. Church, Pinola, on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. Theme: “We’re still here standing united.” Scripture: Ephesians 4:16. The guest speaker will be Rev. Kenneth Skiffer, pastor of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, Pinola. Everyone is invited to attend.


February 11

The Braxton Planners are sponsoring a Neighborhood Watch Meeting on February 15 at Braxton Community Center at 6 p.m.   Please bring your favorite dish and visit with your neighbors as CPR procedures are covered. A Bible study on the book of Revelations is being offered every Sunday night at 6 p.m. led by Pastor Bro. Donald Green at Fellowship Baptist Church, Hwy. 13 South, Mendenhall.


Morning prayer and afternoon luncheon is held every Thursday at Mt. Moriah Church. Prayer time is 11 a.m. until noon. Lunch and fellowship time is 12:15-1:15 p.m. Prayer and lunch is open to all people to get spiritually fed and natural food for the soul. Senior citizens, the needy and the homeless, come and bring a friend. Mt. Moriah Church is located at 160 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Magee.


The Books-n-Lunch Club meets at the Magee Library at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss a book chosen for adult readers. New participants are welcome. Pick up or prepare a lunch item to share and join the group, or just visit to see what goes on. Call the library at 601-849-3747 for more information.

The Simpson County Federation of Democratic Women meets at the E911 Building in Mendenhall the third Saturday of each month from 10-11 a.m.

American Legion Post 74 meets the third Tuesday of each month at the VFW, Hwy 49, Magee, at 6:30 p.m. Veterans and active duty service personnel welcome.


Lunch and Prayer is held every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at BridgePointe Church, 123 Choctaw Street E., Magee. Hosted by Genesis (a BridgePointe Ministry.)

Preschool story time is held at Mendenhall Public Library on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Bring your preschooler for stories,

songs and crafts.


Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.
