February 2-3

Kennedy Springs Baptist Church "Mission Center"--- --Enter to WIN FOOD AND CASH..  February 2 and 3 (8 a.m.-12 noon). Most  clothes are *50¢ including  blue jeans. Hundreds of sweats, coats, jackets and sweaters sell for * 50¢ and up and  lots of scrubs are only *$1. They receive new clothing donations from CATO and Dollar General as well as jewelry from Ballyhoo often! Hundreds of books are available for  10 ¢. Also selling  toys, dishes, linens,knick knacks and much more! However, NEW date changes - they will now be open the 1st and 3rd Friday and Saturday each month.   Follow the pink signs from Polk’s Pharmacy only 9 miles from downtown Magee and only 10 miles out Highway 540E from Highway 49 to 2034 Highway 540. CMRLS Libraries will be closed Friday, February 2, for the annual CMRLS Team Development Day. Regular library hours will resume on Saturday, February 3, for those libraries with Saturday hours. All online resources will be available at while your library is closed. Central Mississippi Regional Library System serves the public libraries of Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties.


February 3

The 15th Year Anniversary honoring Dr. Allison Moffett will be held at Calvary M.B. Church on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Sister Joyce Hill of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Kokomo.


February 4

The 123rd Year Church Anniversary Celebration will be held at New Zion M.B. Church, Pinola, on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m. Theme: “We’re still here standing united.” Scripture: Ephesians 4:16. The guest speaker will be Rev. Kenneth Skiffer, pastor of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, Pinola. Everyone is invited to attend.


The Annual Stewardess Program will be held at Zionell CME Church, 325 Zionell Road, Mt. Olive on Feb. 4 at noon. The guest speaker will be Doretha Keys. Zionell CME Church pastor is Rev. Eddie Cole, Sr. Presiding elder is Rev. Eddie Dixon and Presiding prelate is Rev. Thomas L. Brown, Sr.

February 10

A gospel sing will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Sanford Community Center, 663 Old Highway 49, Sanford featuring The Pilgrim Family, Gospel Grass Revival and Faithway Singers. Admission is free, but a love offering will be received. For more information call 601-765-6485.

The Simpson County Federation of Democratic Women will host their annual “Chili” lunch sale on Wednesday, February 14, at the E911 Building in Mendenhall from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lunch is $5.


February 15

The Braxton Planners will sponsor a Neighborhood Watch Meeting on February 15 at Braxton Community Center at 6 p.m.   Bring your favorite dish and visit with your neighbors as Chris Busby explains and demonstrates the new CPR procedures. The Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for the next Mendenhall Miss Hospitality. The goal of the state and local Miss Hospitality is to promote tourism and economic development at the local and state level. Miss Hospitality represents the spirit of the “Hospitality State” with everyone she meets. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 24 is eligible to enter. The deadline to enter is February 16. March 4

The first year anniversary of St. Mary Church’s Pastor Anthony Watts will be held on Sunday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Bernard Mitchell of Zion Hill M.B. Church, Mendenhall. Everyone is invited to attend.



A Bible study on the book of Revelations is being offered every Sunday night at 6 p.m. led by Pastor Bro. Donald Green at Fellowship Baptist Church, Hwy. 13 South, Mendenhall.


Morning prayer and afternoon luncheon is held every Thursday at Mt. Moriah Church. Prayer time is 11 a.m. until noon. Lunch and fellowship time is 12:15-1:15 p.m. Prayer and lunch is open to all people to get spiritually fed and natural food for the soul. Senior citizens, the needy and the homeless, come and bring a friend. Mt. Moriah Church is located at 160 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Magee.


The Books-n-Lunch Club meets at the Magee Library at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss a book chosen for adult readers. New participants are welcome. Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.
