April 12

Patron Appreciation Day will be held on Thursday, April 12, at Magee Public Library. All day, all ages. Enjoy cupcakes. Photo booth is back with props.

 

Brown Bag and Brush painting class will be held at Mendenhall Public Library on April 12 at 11:30 a.m. Bring your own 11x14 canvas. Paint and brushes will be provided.

 

April 13

Jackie Warren Tatum will present a workshop for writers for one hour on Friday, April 13, beginning at 2 p.m. After 3 p.m. the writers are invited to sign their books in the library. Registration is open. Call Frances at 601-849-3747 for more information.

 

April 14

All About Operation Christmas Child - a fun, informative day to share ideas, crafts, videos, food, fellowship and more on Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church Magee, 222 1st Street NW. Lunch will be provided. Session 1: “How to be a Great Project Leader” Session 2: “Things You May  Not Know About OCC and SP” Session 3: “What Goes in is FUN - What Comes Out is ETERNAL!” Hosted by the OCC Northern Pine Belt Area Team. A gospel sing will be held on Saturday, April 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Sanford Community Center, 663 Old Highway 49, Sanford, featuring Harvest Quartet, Touch of Faith and Faithway Singers. Admission is free. A love offering will be received. For information call 601-765-6485.

 

Keep Simpson County Beautiful is taking part in the Keep America Beautiful, "Clean up your Community" program on April 14 in Braxton. The event will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at noon.  Volunteers will be signed in at the Braxton Community Center on Main Street in Braxton and all volunteers will be treated to lunch. There will also be entertainment in the park. Anyone wanting to participate on their own street may pick up trash bags at the community center with a before photo and will receive a lunch ticket if they bring in both a before and after photo.

 

 April 15

Mary Grove Church Pastor’s Second Anniversary will be celebrated on April 15 at 1:30 p.m. Theme: Joshua 1:9. Pastor James Dampier from Mt. Carmel Church will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to attend.

 

 April 16

The Adult Book Club meeting will be held at Mendenhall Public Library on April 16 at 2 p.m. to discuss the book of the month, Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, by Tom Franklin.

 

 April 16-18

Spring Revival will be held at Magee First Baptist Church on April 16-19 at 7:15. Guest speakers for the week will be: Monday- Rev. Willie Hobbs of Nazareth Baptist Church of Mendenhall; Tuesday- Rev. Billy Parker of St. Mary M.B. Church of Flowood; Wednesday- Rev. E. Darnell Moffett of Calvary M.B. Church of Magee. Everyone is welcome to come and be blessed.

 

Annual Spring Revival will be held at St. Paul M.B. Church, Mt. Olive, April 16-18. Evening services begin at 7 p.m. Guest speakers will be Pastor Milton Williams, Pastor Louis McLaurin and Pastor Kevin Youngblood. The public is invited to attend.

April 24

Learn how to sell on Etsy at Mendenhall Public Library on April 24 at 10 a.m. Etsy is an online buyer and seller community very similar to eBay, except it focuses on hand-crafted or vintage goods. Learn together and share experiences and selling techniques.

 

April 25

Creative Coloring at Magee Public Library will be held on April 25 from 1-2 p.m. Come for coffee and cookies and stay for the coloring.

 

April 28

Flourish, a one-day conference for girls in grades 6-12, will be held on Saturday, April 28, at Goodwater Baptist Church on Airport Road in Magee. Bethany Barr Phillips is the speaker and worship leader. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the program beginning at 10 a.m.  Lunch is included.  Cost is $10.  Tickets and information are available from First Baptist Church, Goodwater Baptist, Corinth Baptist, Church Alive and Overflow in Magee; First Baptist Church of Mendenhall; and Calvary Baptist in Braxton.

Pinola Annual School Reunion will be held Saturday, April 28. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and a short business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with the meal being served at $10 a plate immediately following the meeting. Fellowship before, during and after the meal. Creating Second Chances (C2C) will host a workshop in recognition of Older Americans Month. We will discuss the following topics: Common Changes Associated with Aging, Depression in Older Adults, Silver Alert, and Warning Signs of Dementia. Zion Hill Baptist Church and the Relay 4 Life Ministry will have a Relay for Life Festival on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All groups and organizations that would like to participate contact Willie Rutherford at 601-832-7651. May 20-23

Annual Spring Revival will be held at Mount Mercy M.B. Church, Hwy 49, Magee. Worship services will begin Sunday, May 20. The speaker for Sunday will be Rev. June 1-2

Magee High School Class of 1988 will celebrate their 30 year reunion on Friday, June 1, with a Meet and Greet at Magee High School from 6-7 p.m. and tour the old stomping ground and reminisce. A block party will be held at The Vault in Downtown Magee from 7-10 p.m. On Saturday, June 2, the 30 year class celebration will be held at Pretty Unique event venue, Hwy 18 W, Jackson, from 7 p.m. to midnight. The cost for the 2 day event is $150 per classmate and allows one guest. A deposit of $75 is due by March 12 and the final payment of $75 is due by April 2. A Bible study on the book of Revelations is being offered every Sunday night at 6 p.m. led by Pastor Bro. Donald Green at Fellowship Baptist Church, Hwy. 13 South, Mendenhall.

 

Morning prayer and afternoon luncheon is held every Thursday at Mt. Moriah Church. Prayer time is 11 a.m. until noon. Lunch and fellowship time is 12:15-1:15 p.m. Prayer and lunch are open to all people to get spiritually fed and natural food for the soul. Senior citizens, the needy and the homeless, come and bring a friend. Mt. Moriah Church is located at 160 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Magee.

 

The Books-n-Lunch Club meets at the Magee Library at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss a book chosen for adult readers. New participants are welcome. Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.
