New officials take oath of office

The City of Magee held their official swearing in ceremony on Friday afternoon at the Magee Civic Center.
Family and friends gathered to honor and participate in the official ceremony for the new leadership of Magee.
Circuit Court Judge Gerald Martin swore each official in individually.  It was noted that two of the inductees, Dale Berry and Angel Brister, were children of former elected officials of the city.
Berry took the oath of office as mayor for the city.  Angel Brister was elected alderman-at-Large.  Both Berry’s father and Brister’s father had served in the position of alderman.
Whitney Baker was sworn in as alderman for Ward One.  It was noted that Baker and Brister were the first female leadership for the City of Magee.
Matthew Hickman was sworn in as alderman Ward Two.
Lane Steel was sworn in as alderman of Ward Four.
Patrick Brown was sworn in as alderman Ward Four.  Brown was acknowledged as being the longest serving member of the Board of Aldermen.
A reception was held following the ceremony.

Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.
