Deputy Kelvin Jenkins was named Top Cop of the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office for 2018.

Mable Everett has served as mayor of Braxton for many years. On May 16, she was met with a pleasant surprise when the Town of Braxton dedicated the town park to her.

The9th annual Mendenhall in May festival was a complete success. Nearly 1,000 people gathered in downtown Mendenhall to join in the celebration.

Macy Greer named DYW

Simpson County’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2019 is Macy Kate Greer, the daughter of Kelly and Lisa Greer of Mendenhall.  Macy Kate also won the Overall Fitness, Overall Talent and Spirit of DYW award.  She will represent Simpson County at the DYW National Finals in Mobile, Ala., in June.


School board delays election

After years of complying with restrictive hiring practices, the Simpson County School Board has issued payment to the law firm of Adams and Reese in conjunction with settlement of the court ordered consent decree from which the county has finally been released. 




Cardinals to host baseball camp

The Simpson County Cardinal Organization will host a two-day baseball camp.

Coach Brian Mills explained that the camp is for all age groups. He said, “This is an opportunity to come and train with some of the best. It gives you a chance to train, compete, and sharpen tools to become an elite baseball player.”

The column that appeared in last week’s newspaper about the opioid lawsuit questioned whether Representative Noah Sanford had a conflict of interest.




Dollar General robbed again

On January 6, two armed men entered the Dollar General Store located on Highway 28 West just outside of Magee and robbed it.  It was the second robbery of the store.

The gunmen held the clerks at gunpoint and demanded money from the register. After the pair took an undisclosed amount of money they left on foot.



Arrest Reports 1-11-2018

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 28 arrests from January 1 to January 8.

Stacey Rawls of Silver Creek MS was arrested on January 2 and charged with driving with license suspended and possession of a controlled substance.


Robbery suspects held

On January 3, 2018, at approximately 9:57 p.m. , the manager of Wards Restaurant in Magee reported to the Magee Police Department via 911 that they had been robbed at gunpoint by a man who had taken an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. The suspect had then fled from the store.
