Magee Mayor offers thanks

Dear Editor,

As we come to the conclusion of 2017, the Board of Alderman and myself would like to thank everyone for helping the City of Magee. We would like to thank Coach Eric Williams and his varsity basketball girls and boys for helping our fire department with the painting of fire hydrants. Also, we would like to thank Coach Allen Eubanks  and the baseball team for helping with the Veterans Day Program. We would like to thank all of the volunteers with the labor and monetary contributions for all functions at the Jimmy Clyde Sportsplex.

Another goal is the revitalization of downtown Magee. We are determined to give our downtown merchants a level playing field to conduct business. I commend all of the entrepreneurs for investing in downtown Magee. I want you to know the Mayor and Board of Aldermen are going to support you.

The City has budgeted approximately $200,000 to paving of city streets. Main Street and Magee Elementary are at the top of the list. Also, the budget committee has scheduled additional streets. The previous administration contracted city engineer Buddy Wolverton to do an assessment of all our streets. The remaining streets will be paved according to this study.

Your city has one of the top police departments and fire departments in the state and the administration is proud of them. We are also blessed with an active Chamber of Commerce. I would like to especially thank our forgotten heroes and that is our maintenance department. Remember them on cold and rainy days in the winter and hot days in the summer.

Remember to Shop Local during our holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Dale Berry, Mayor,

City of Magee
