Mix and Mingle

Simpson County Development Foundation hosted a Mix and Mingle event at the Simpson County Country Club last week.  It was well attended with well over 50 members and guests.  The event was part of a community awareness program of the Foundation adopted by the board and its new president, Malory Yelverton. 

 





Runoff is June 26

Primary runoff elections will be held on Tuesday, June 26.

The Democratic ballot will have one race between Howard Sherman and David Baria for the US Senate seat. The Republican ballot will feature one race between Michael Guest and Whit Hughes for the U.S. House of Representatives Third Congressional District.

Deputy involved in accident

On Tuesday, June 5, at 9:01 p.m., Simpson County Sheriff’s deputies were responding to an emergency call for service on Bushtown Shivers Road when  Deputy Eric Still was involved in a single motor vehicle accident while driving on Hwy 43 near Pinola.


We need good people to run for elected office

G enerally speaking, folks go into office with good intentions to do the right thing for the right reasons.  They look to others who have served in those offices for advice on how to do things properly and sometimes if they listen they get proper advice and sometimes they do not.  They either don’t listen or they don’t get the proper advice.

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 





Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.


Dollar General robbed again

On January 6, two armed men entered the Dollar General Store located on Highway 28 West just outside of Magee and robbed it.  It was the second robbery of the store.

The gunmen held the clerks at gunpoint and demanded money from the register. After the pair took an undisclosed amount of money they left on foot.

Simpson County Academy’s Cougar basketball teams had a busy week on the hardwood as they played games last week against Central Hinds Academy, Park Place Christian Academy, and Pelahatchie High School.

Hugh Jack Stubbs

Hugh Jack Stubbs, 76, of Magee, Mississippi, died Sunday at Magee General Hospital in Magee. He was born Sunday, November 30, 1941.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.


Arrest Reports 2-1-2018

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 41 arrests from January 22 to January 29.

David Hughes of 1992 Lang Creek Road Meridian MS was arrested on January 28 and charged with possession of marijuana and careless driving.




Bowden Williams

Bowden Williams, 75, of Magee, Mississippi, died Monday at his home in Magee. He was born Monday, November 9, 1942.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031.


Jessie Fay Cook

Jessie Fay Cook, 79, of Magee died Wednesday at her residence. She was born July 3, 1938.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.
