Suds 4 Dogs Day

Keep Mendenhall Beautiful recently hosted a “Suds 4 Dogs” event in which citizens would receive free hotdogs for cleaning street signs. The event drew great participation. Ready to work are, from left, Jeannnie Gregory, Melissa Caughman, Teresa Bowen, Shannon Welch, Brenda Booth, Martha Stubbs, Latasha Millis, and Susan Minor.

 



Soccer sign-up begins

The City of Mendenhall is now registering for youth soccer. Co-ed soccer will be available for children ages 3-16. A$45 registration fee includes the purchase of a team jersey. Registration forms are available at City Hall. Participants will need cleats, shin guards, and shorts.

District 77 Election Results

Unofficial election results are in for House Representative of District 77. On Tuesday July 31 a runoff election was held between Hayes Patrick and Price Wallace. Voter participation was similar to the first election, which was low. Patrick received the most votes in the initial election, due largely to his dominance in Rankin County.




District stuck for unpaid meals

The Simpson County School Board got stuck with a $16,000 tab for unpaid meals.

Student meals that were not paid for at the end of the school year left an unpaid balance of $16,000.  That is in addition to students who receive free or reduced lunch.  The funds to pay for the shortage for meals came from the student activity funds.

Bernadine Elizabeth Howell Mashburn

Bernardine Elizabeth Howell Mashburn, 58, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018.  Services were 10am Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  Visitation was 5-7pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial was in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.  Reverend Guy Hughes and Rev.



MBN operation in Magee

An operation was conducted the morning of August 7 at a residence on 11th Avenue NW Magee MS by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. The Magee Police Department was involved in a support role. MBN is declining to comment at this time. Updates will be made to this story as more information becomes available.

 

 

 



Diane Buffington

Diane Buffington, 69, of Washington, GA died Wednesday at Pruitt Healthcare in Washington, GA. She was born Wednesday, October 13, 1948.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.

 


Louise ‘Lucy’ Prince Butler

Louise “Lucy” Prince Butler, 76, of Magee,  died Sunday at Magee General Hospital.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Magee, with services following at 4 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery.
