Wallace and Patrick in runoff

The special election for Mississippi House Representative District 77 held July 10 resulted in a run-off between Price Wallace of Mendenhall and Hayes Patrick of Puckett.

Five candidates qualified for the position, Cliff Brown, Hayes Patrick, Chris Purdum, Cemper Scott, and Price Wallace.


Angels World Series Bound

The Magee Angels cruised to a state Championship by thoroughly beating every opponent they faced. The Angels handled Perry County in three innings. The game was called after the Angels scored 27 runs in three innings. The Angels were led by a strong pitching performance from Kylin Chisholm.






Simpson County Academy

Simpson County Academy seniors Leah Beth Luckey, left, and Abigail Carter, right, played in the Lady Cougars’ opening games.  They beat Wayne Academy 5-3 and tied Sylva Bay 5-5.  The JV Lady Cougars tied with Wayne Academy 4-4.

Justice Court and Municipal Judge Eugene Knight Resigns

Municipal Judge of Magee Eugene Knight turned in his resignation letter on June 21. Mayor Dale Berry confirmed that Knight’s resignation will become effective June 30. Knight has served as Magee’s municipal judge since May of 2003.Berry said, “There are no improprieties in the City of Magee concerning Judge Knight.




Donald Ray Berry

Donald Ray Berry, 58, of New Hebron, Mississippi, passed from this life Monday at his residence. He was born Friday, December 4, 1959.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 5:30 PM until 8:30 PM at the Shivers Baptist Church in Shivers, MS,

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola.

Veteran’s celebration Nov. 10

The city of Magee will host their annual Veteran’s Celebration on Friday, November 10, at First Baptist Church.

Line up for the parade will be at 9:45 a.m. in front of the church.  A ceremony will follow the parade in front of the community center.  This is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.




Fire claims lives of two

A structure fire claimed two lives early Monday morning.

Simpson County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Chris Wallace said that an emergency call was made at 5:32 a.m. reporting a structure fire. Deputies, along with the Magee Fire Department, were dispatched to Rodney Sullivan Road in the Saratoga community.
