Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Lofton Magee, 103, Magee, ( St. Peter Church Community) were held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. from the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Magee.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pastor Troy L.



Willie Jean Shorter

Willie Jean Shorter, 87, of Braxton, died Wednesday at Baptist Hospital. She was born Saturday, September 6, 1930.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2018, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Braxton. Burial  followed in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall handled  arrangements.


DA announces felony convictions

District Attorney Matt Sullivan announces the following defendants have been adjudicated guilty and sentenced to significant punishments for felony crimes committed in the Thirteenth District.  Simpson County:  Robert Kilpatrick received 10 years for Possession of Methamphetamine.  Jerry Hutchins received 10 years for Possession of Methamphetam

A service for Mr. Alexander was held Saturday, April 28 at 3 p.m. at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home, Utica. His final resting place is Barridge Cemetery, Learned, MS.


Willie Dean, Jr.

Mr. Willie Dean, Jr., age 70, departed this life on April 22, 2018 at his home.

 

 

 

 

Services were held Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at Seven Springs U.M. Church, Byram. The final resting place for Mr. Dean is Bracey Cemetery, Raymond.

Barbara Jean Alexander, age 77, departed this life on April 24, 2018 at Forest Hill Nursing Home.

 

 

 

 

A service for Ms. Alexander was held Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at Word of Worship, Jackson. Her final resting place is Garden Memorial Cemetery, Hwy 49, Jackson.

Ruby H. Lee passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at her residence at the age of 96.  She was born on October 31, 1921, to James Bott Hawkins and Lela (Edwards) Hawkins in Scott County, MS.

Ruth Ann Goggin passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg, MS. She was born on June 16, 1949, to the late, Jimmie H. Stanford and Bonnie (Tucker) Stanford in Mineola, TX.

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 





Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.

Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.
