Crashes decrease

The Mississippi Highway Patrol concluded its 2018 Fourth of July enforcement period which began Tuesday, July 3, at 12:01 a.m. and ended Wednesday, July 4, at midnight. Throughout the period, MHP issued 4594 citations with 41 DUI arrests.








Lee dies suddenly

Simpson County lost a valued member of the community on July 4. Marvin Earl Lee passed away, leaving behind his loving wife Thelma Lee, and two sons, Dexter and Marcus Lee.  Lee was a devoted husband, loving father, educator, resource, and friend to many.

Edna Earl Buckley Dear, born September 4, 1930, slipped from this world into the arms of Jesus, June 26, 2018.  Visitation was last Thursday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs.  Services were at 10 a.m.


Stacey Antoine Pippins

Mr. Stacey Antoine Pippins, age 54, departed this life on June 19, 2018, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Services for Mr. Pippins will be Wednesday, June 27, at Cade Chapel Baptist Church 1000 W. Ridgeway, St. Jackson, at 12 noon. Mr. Pippins’ final resting place will be Autumn Woods, Northside Drive, Jackson.

If someone reports that rutabagas will forestall aging, ward off cancer or strengthen the heart, I might not run out and buy a bushel of them, but I’ll think about it.


Arrest Reports 6-26-2018

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 18 arrests from June 18 to June 25.

The SCSO reported the following additional arrests: DUI 1st other, disturbing the peace, no driver’s license, MDOC violation, warrant (6), false pretense (2), indecent exposure, domestic violence (2), possession of paraphernalia, vagrancy, and hold.


Charles William McMillan, Sr.

 

Mr. Charles William McMillan, Sr., 80, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home in Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. David Keen and Rev. Jason Gross officiating. Interment was in Good Hope Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Betty Waller

Betty Waller, 80, of Waynesboro, MS, passed away Sunday,  July 1.

 She was born September 16, 1937.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, from 11a.m. - 12 noon at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Magee.

Funeral services for Ms. Earline McNair, Mount Olive, will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 11 a.m. from Mt. Annette Allen passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018, at Magee General Hospital. 

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Allen; son, Buddy Allen (Judy); brother, Jimmy Lucas; granddaughter, Stacey Allen; and great-grandson, Dylan Allen.

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola.
