Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Lofton Magee, 103, Magee, ( St. Peter Church Community) were held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 11 a.m. from the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Magee.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pastor Troy L.


DA announces felony convictions

District Attorney Matt Sullivan announces the following defendants have been adjudicated guilty and sentenced to significant punishments for felony crimes committed in the Thirteenth District.  Simpson County:  Robert Kilpatrick received 10 years for Possession of Methamphetamine.  Jerry Hutchins received 10 years for Possession of Methamphetam



Willie Jean Shorter

Willie Jean Shorter, 87, of Braxton, died Wednesday at Baptist Hospital. She was born Saturday, September 6, 1930.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2018, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Braxton. Burial  followed in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall handled  arrangements.

Harriet Marlene Hochstine

Harriet Marlene Hochstine, 76, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Magee General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 1, 1942, to Elma V. (Hartman) and Merle Edward Shingledecker in Indiana, Pennsylvania. 

Lena was a retired nurse and cosmetologist.

 

 

 

 


Johnnie Blanche Bass

Johnnie Blanche Bass, 86, passed away Saturday at Comfort Care Nursing Home in Laurel . She was born Thursday, February 11, 1932.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.

 

 

 

 

 




Trojan Baseball News

The Magee Trojans ended their season in the second round of the playoffs with a competitive series against Seminary that went three games. The Trojans finished with a 19-11 overall record. Head Coach Allen Eubanks is already preparing for next season.

Willie Lois Bratcher, 92, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday at her home in Mendenhall.  She was born Monday, April 5, 1926.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Kennedy Springs Baptist Church in Magee.

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 





Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.

Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.
