Top of the Class

Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.

If you have a hankering for some fresh home raised veggies then you may want to try the Magee Farmer’s Market.

The program is a spinoff of the Living Well in Magee program adopted by the city.  It was launched last summer and plans are to have a bigger and better program this year.

Shooting in D'Lo

Simpson County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies force suspect from residence using tear gas.

Thursday afternoon the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department was notified that shots were fired on Old Jupiter Road.  Deputies responded and one suspect fled the scene in a gray Ford. 









Go Red event to feature locals

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women luncheon on May 3 will feature three special guests from Simpson County.

Darlene Garner of Magee was interviewed on April 2 for a film on her family’s journey through heart disease that will be shown at the luncheon.

Charles T. Lee

Charles T. Lee, 75, of Pinola, MS passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was born Saturday, August 22, 1942 in Hazlehurst, MS.

SCA basketball

SCA’s basketball teams played two games last week in the District 3 AAAA District Tournament. The girls opened the tournament against Lamar School and were defeated 58-53 in OT. The boys opened the tournament against East Rankin Academy and won the game by a score of 68-51.


Rebecca Milling

Rebecca Milling gained her heavenly wings on Sunday, November 18, 2017, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. She was born on May 17, 1940, to Ebb Clarke and Catherine (Walters) Adams in Westpoint, Georgia.

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 





Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

UPDATE – Wednesday, January 17, 12:30 p.m.

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.


Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.
