Suds 4 Dogs Day

Keep Mendenhall Beautiful recently hosted a “Suds 4 Dogs” event in which citizens would receive free hotdogs for cleaning street signs. The event drew great participation. Ready to work are, from left, Jeannnie Gregory, Melissa Caughman, Teresa Bowen, Shannon Welch, Brenda Booth, Martha Stubbs, Latasha Millis, and Susan Minor.


Soccer sign-up begins

The City of Mendenhall is now registering for youth soccer. Co-ed soccer will be available for children ages 3-16. A$45 registration fee includes the purchase of a team jersey. Registration forms are available at City Hall. Participants will need cleats, shin guards, and shorts.

Pastor Rev. Dr. Eric Dixson, Sr., and the membership of Oak Ridge M. B. Church invites everyone to their annual revival. This will begin on Sunday, August 12, at 1:15 p.m. Our nightly services will begin at 7:15 p.m. on August 13-17.  The theme is "The Great Deliverance" (Luke 1:74 - 75).



District 77 Election Results


Unofficial election results are in for House Representative of District 77. On Tuesday July 31 a runoff election was held between Hayes Patrick and Price Wallace. Voter participation was similar to the first election, which was low. Patrick received the most votes in the initial election, due largely to his dominance in Rankin County.

District stuck for unpaid meals


The Simpson County School Board got stuck with a $16,000 tab for unpaid meals.

Student meals that were not paid for at the end of the school year left an unpaid balance of $16,000.  That is in addition to students who receive free or reduced lunch.  The funds to pay for the shortage for meals came from the student activity funds. 


Arrest Reports 4-12-2018

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 38 arrests from April 2 to April 9.

Danny Ray White of 140 Barnes Road Braxton MS was arrested and charged with possession of paraphernalia, DUI 1st, and possession of a controlled substance.

Lemeul Pierre McNair of Magee was arrested and charged with sale of methamphetamine.

Joeann A. Booth

Joeann A. Booth passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at her residence.  She was born on December 22, 1950, to the late Robert Badeaux and Ouida (Reynolds) Badeaux. 

Known by Nana by all who loved her, she will be greatly missed.





Lee dies suddenly

Simpson County lost a valued member of the community on July 4. Marvin Earl Lee passed away, leaving behind his loving wife Thelma Lee, and two sons, Dexter and Marcus Lee.  Lee was a devoted husband, loving father, educator, resource, and friend to many.

Liz Overby

Liz Overby, 77, of Puckett passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at her home in Puckett. She was born Saturday, June 15, 1940 in Brandon.

Jones Ray Fitzhugh

Jones Ray Fitzhugh, 75, died on April 24, 2018, in Simpson County, Mississippi. Mr. Fitzhugh was born on August 1, 1942, in Scott County, Mississippi to his parents J.C. and Christine Fitzhugh.
