Simpson’s basketball teams played three games last week against Copiah Academy and Lamar School.

Girls Games

Copiah Academy

Simpson 65 Copiah 33-Scoring for Simpson were TK Catchings with 19 points, Alissa Brewer 15, Morgan Griffith 10, Anna Claire Walker 7, Maura Pruitt 4, Kristin Busby and Maddie Moody 3 each, and Sabra Hubbard and Mollie Jones 2 each. The win improved Simpson’s record to 21-6 on the season and 4-2 in district play.

Copiah Academy

Simpson 66 Copiah 54-Scoring for Simpson were Morgan Griffith with 20 points, Alissa Brewer 17, TK Catchings 16, Anna Claire Walker 7, and Kristin Busby, Sabra Hubbard and Maddie Moody 2 each. The win improved Simpson’s record to 22-6 on the season and 5-2 in district play.

Lamar School

Lamar 42 Simpson 36-Scoring for Simpson were TK Catchings with 17 points, Alissa Brewer and Morgan Griffith 8 each, and Kristin Busby 3. The loss dropped Simpson’s record to 22-7 on the season and concluded their district record at 5-3.

Boys Games

Copiah Academy

Simpson 72 Copiah 38-Scoring for Simpson were Kyle Russell with 30 points, Bowen Kelly 10, Hunter Cline 7, Layton Brown 6, Zach Holbrook and Thomas Pepper 5 each, Hooks Harvey and CJ Jones 4 each, and Cam Crace 1. The win improved Simpson’s record to 15-8 on the season and 4-2 in district play.

Copiah Academy

Simpson 73 Copiah 66-Scoring for Simpson were Hunter Cline and Kyle Russell with 19 points each, Bowen Kelly 16, Thomas Pepper 8, Bryce Caughman 5, Zach Holbrook 4, and Hooks Harvey 2. The win improved Simpson’s record to 16-8 on the season and 5-2 in district play.

Lamar School

Simpson 56 Lamar 53-Scoring for Simpson were Kyle Russell with 24 points, Hunter Cline 12, Thomas Pepper 8, Bowen Kelly 7, Bryce Caughman 3, and Joseph Berry 2. The win improved Simpson’s record to 17-8 on the season and concluded their district record at 6-2.

In junior high action Simpson’s girls defeated Copiah 48-47. The girls lost to Copiah 40-24 and to Lamar 43-17. Simpson’s boys defeated Copiah 37-34, Copiah 43-41, and Lamar 60-32.

Simpson will host Presbyterian Christian School for Senior Night on Friday, February 9, with the varsity girls starting at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys to follow. The Junior High District 3 AAAA Tournament will be on Saturday, February 10, the times and location were not available at press time.

Social

Area high schools have chosen their top graduates for special honors at graduation ceremonies across the county this month.  They will be recognized and speak to audiences at those ceremonies.
