Simpson County Classic draws crowdBy MARLAN JONES,
The Simpson County Classic ended with a gridlock this year. Mendenhall, Simpson Academy, and Magee baseball teams each finished the day with a 1-1 record.
The games were played last Saturday at Magee’s baseball field. The Trojans started the day with a win over Simpson Academy. Seth Russel got the start and was the winning pitcher for the Trojans. The Trojans outscored the Cougars 7-6 in a game that came down to the wire.
The Cougars faced the Mendenhall Tigers in the second game. Caleb Gardener was the starting pitcher for the Cougars. Christian Allen got the start for the Tigers. The Tigers took an early three run lead in the first inning, but the Cougars were in complete control the rest of the way. The Cougars won the game 10-4.
The final game of the night was played between the Mendenhall Tigers and Magee Trojans. The Tigers won the game 11-6. Mendenhall played a relatively mistake free game and capitalized on 10 errors made by the Trojans.
